Operator Check-In
Why check-in matters, how to do it, and what happens behind the scenes.
Why Check-In Matters
Checking into a station tells JobLine.ai which operator is at which machine. This seemingly simple action enables several critical features: handoff notes are delivered to the right person, parts counts are attributed to the correct operator for performance tracking, supervisors can see at a glance who is where on the floor, and the system knows which station to show on your operator dashboard.
How to Check In
From the dashboard, locate the station card and click the "Check In" button. Alternatively, navigate to the station detail page and click "Check In" there. Once checked in, the station card updates to show your name and the dashboard switches to your operator view for that station. You will also be prompted to review any pending handoff from the previous operator.
One Station at a Time
You can only be checked into one station at a time. If you check into a new station while already checked into another, the system automatically checks you out of the first station. This ensures data integrity — your parts counts and handoffs are always attributed to the correct station. If you need to briefly leave your station (for a break, meeting, or supply run), you do not need to check out; only check out when you are done for the shift or being reassigned.
Automatic Check-Out
Submitting a handoff at the end of your shift automatically checks you out of the station. This is the recommended workflow: finish your shift, create a handoff with your notes and parts counts, submit it, and you are checked out. If you forget to submit a handoff, you remain checked in until you manually check out or check into a different station.
Check-In History
Every check-in and check-out event is logged in the station's history and the activity log. Supervisors can review who was checked into each station at any point in time. This history is valuable for investigating production issues ("who was running this machine when the scrap rate spiked?") and for verifying attendance.
